Everyone is doing a blog. So if the question really is — will blogging help my marketing career? Sadly, the answer is yes and no. On the one hand, it may help your credibility off you are any good — interesting subjects, well delivered etc.
On the other hand, if you want impact/cut thorough, there’s a high likelihood you’ll hardly be noticed in the crowd. The really good people get noticed, the other’s are wasting their time. And you need to market a blog like anything else
As far as general impact of blogging, it’s just one more media for all businesses. If your question is about I need to blog to push my business forward, it can’t hurt. It’ll take up time and your boss may be impressed, but will it have impact? Again, depends on whether you are any good. Chances are, not. There’s thousands of businesses doing blogs, and only a tiny few hit the mark. But you may be a communications God, so it could make your entire career.
